How many of you watched the Netflix show, Monsters: The Erik and Lyle Menendez Story? I watched it twice… I know I’m supposed to be objective here but it was interesting to say the least! I can’t decide where I stand… THOSE TIK TOKS LAST FALL?! Girl… ! Anyways, let’s get serious… There will be a resentencing hearing THIS WEEK! Here are the details- The Los Angeles DA Nathan Hochman is not the biggest fan of these two. He believes the brothers’ story was inconsistent, and the claims of sexual assault were made up in order to gain sympathy from the jury. However, a court has ruled that a resentencing hearing can take place! The BBC provides an excellent explanation below: “The brothers' effort is based on a California law that allows certain inmates who were aged under 26 at the time of their crimes to seek resentencing and potential parole eligibility - recognising that brain development continues into a person's mid-20s. If the brothers are resentenced to 50 years to life as they have requested, it would make them immediately eligible for parole.” To keep this short & sweet (I know you only have a couple minutes for this read!) if they were granted that resentencing, it would not necessarily guarantee their freedom, as they would still need to convince a parole board they are no longer a danger to society… Their resentencing hearing is scheduled for April 17 in Los Angeles, CA.
